The Tinicum Arts Festival on July 6th and 7th River Road (Route 32) in Erwinna, PA Over 140 crafters and artisans displaying and selling their hand-made creations... and a few pigs displaying their hoof-made works of art, too! Yes, the talented and gifted PPN adoptable pigs from Ross Mill Farm will be creating their beautiful pig art which will be available for sale. All money we raise from our Pig Art goes to help support the rehabilitation of abused and abandoned pet pigs so we can find them their forever homes. If you can volunteer, even if for only a few hours, we would really appreciate it. You just might be pleasantly surprised at how rewarding it can be to help out at a PPN event. It's another beautiful day in the neighborhood of Ross Mill Farm. Tomorrow is the 4th of July and while some people enjoy the fireworks that accompany the holiday, keep in mind most animals and many people do not. Please keep your animals safe and bring them indoors if possible. If you have pigs that live outside, make sure their fencing is secure and gates are closed tight. If you live in a neighborhood, please be thoughtful of the animals that live there and any people who have a difficult time with the noise. Many veterans who have PTSD struggle to get through this noisy holiday. Think about them before setting off any firecrackers. If you are a fan of fireworks, many times different towns and cities will set off a big display that is way better than what can be bought at a local fireworks stand. Go watch them instead. For your indoor pets, try playing some calming music louder than you would normally, and have some activities for your critters to keep them busy during the noisy time... a busy ball or find a treat toy for dogs, some catnip-y thing for the pussycats, a bundle of timothy grass for the bun buns, and for the piggies try hiding some Cheerios in their blankets. Cover bird cages and play bird-songs for them. There are many great videos on youtube that help provide a calming environment for people and pets alike. And if possible, put your pig or other pets in an interior room without windows to help muffle the sound as much as possible. Please stay home with them. They are your family and depend on you. We love when visitors come to the farm. We are open every day, weekends included (although it can get very crowded on Saturdays and Sundays). We ask for a $20 donation per family or group, or whatever you are able to give. The donated money goes toward caring for the PPN adoptable pigs who are not yet sponsored or supported. Thank you! Visiting hours are from noon til 3pm. The pigs enjoy all the extra belly rubs they get when people come to see them. Pigcasso and Izzy know it's best to rest during the heat of the day. Good time to come in and have a little siesta so you don't get too hot. Also, for those of you with white pigs, make sure they have sunscreen on and lots of shady areas to be in when it is a hot, sunny day. All pigs can get a sunburn, but the lighter colored pigs are much more prone to it. Use sunscreen and limit the time outside during the peak hours, or if possible, confine them to a shady part of the yard when the sun is at its strongest. It's July now! That sun is serious! These adorable oinkers are incredibly intelligent and sensitive animals making them the perfect candidates for therapy and emotional animal support. Incorporate a Saturday afternoon filled with yoga and pigs and you are in for a real treat. This will not only benefit our yogis with incredible health and happiness benefits, pig yoga is a wonderful opportunity for the pigs to socialize and enjoy the company of humans. A portion of the proceeds will be going directly to the pig rescue Ross Mill Farm/ Pig Placement Network.
